DROPS Grant-Funded Projects

Picture
In June of 2015, the Encinitas Union School District received a $720,000  DROPS grant to implement and construct six student-led SWPPP engineering projects on five EUSD school campuses.  Students have been involved in all steps to complete the construction of their Best Management Practice designs (BMPs).  This includes the architectural drawings, engineering, construction documents, contractor selection and finally on-site construction supervision.  Interns are issued hard hats and safety vests so they can walk into the construction site and make sure things are being built correctly.

With the completion of the construction of the BMPs, future interns will be able to quantify the success of their BMPs  through continued visual observations and rain event testing.  They can compare pre-BMP results to post BMP test results data.
