The SWPPP Internship™ Program is designed to be confidently delivered by a classroom teacher as part of an environmentally-focused STEM program aligned with both Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards. The teacher receives one-on-one training by an assigned BCK Programs coordinator and is provided carefully planned materials for 28 "staff meetings". The program can be flexibly run in a weekly meeting extending 28 weeks or at a faster pace and can work in a science or STEM class or as an elective.

Students are "hired" as interns to study and improve the problem of stormwater pollution on their school campus and in their community. The interns learn about their watershed, the impact of our actions, and common pollutants. More importantly, they recognize that this isn't just a classroom exercise. They are making a notable impact on contributing to the city's compliance with environmental guidelines through educating their peers and engineering structural solutions on campus. The interns make the connection between the work they are doing on their school site and the work done by stormwater professionals in their city. At the end of the program, interns present their experience to the larger community to spread the work and extend the impact of their work. This program changes the directions of young lives by introducing educational and vocational pathways in environmental science.
